Subject:                                     Gate Creek Cabins Snow Report 1-3-09

Goooooooooooooood Dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy  Mates !!!

It’s been awhile, so I thought I’d brighten up your new Year with a quick update … now that I have something to Report !!

It’s a beautiful 19 degrees in the “Spacious Greater  Petersville Snow Arena” … it’s been snowing on and off since Noon and we have somewhere between 2”-3” at present with more snow predicted  J  Kenny Creek Lodge is reporting the Same/same

Warm temps around Christmas caused the 3.5 ft base to settle, so this new light and fluffy snow will make riding Petersville exactly what everyone always expects!!  The farther North & West you get away from the Cabins … the Better the snow gets.  Safari Lake and North in The Tokositna River Drainage, riders found very good snow … some riders found pockets of up to 4’ of Powder (their words).

The East end of the Trail System … the Chulitna Bluff Trail MP 105 all the way North to MP 131 has less snow than to the west …as the warmer temps were lower and to the South (for example the trails across to Talkeetna is not ready yet as some friends shared with us at Christmas).  Also not sure about the Susitna Crossing MP 82.5 at Susitna Landing for riders heading into Trapper and Neil Lakes … as the swamps running North & South were AWESOME prior to (the Christmas warm up) … tons of untracked Powder  J

Hopefully this storm will be more of a Normal Storm and the “Dutch” will get it’s appropriate share of snow … NWS is saying more snow along the Alaska range so that’s Righteous … Deep Snow and Mountain riders are itching for some good riding this Season!!

The Creek beds are still creating some challenges as we haven’t had a lot of wind and the Deeper Creek banks of this area are “NOT Blown in” of course more snow always helps … just remember when you’re riding, if it looks like stump or a rock it probably is … if you see a “Crease in the Snow” … “News Flash” it’s most likely a stream/creek … use caution! By Friday we should have a totally new look again and all riders should be smiling big time.

Bad News/ Good News (kinda) The Trapper creek Inn is closed for food and Beverage as of today. They will still offer Lodging, Gas, Laundry, showers and RV Park … however the Deli and store will be closed for remodeling until May  L  Should be “Boondaava Daalings” when it re-opens … we’ll just miss the goodies for the rest of the Season!  733.2302 for Lodging Reservations!

That’s’ about it for now, Gate Creek still has availability this coming weekend (Friday & Saturday night’s … 1 is Pet Friendly)  The weekend of the 22nd & 23rd and the 29th & 30thwww.gatecreekcabins.com 733.4283 or 733.1393.  Our Snow Tour Business is really picking up … my knee still won’t let me ride so we have “Super Nick Smoljan” guiding with us again this season … he does a magnificent job …

Anyone looking to be on the “always call list” … please drop us an e-mail and if we should ever take a cancellation, and it does happen … you’ll be the 1st ones that we call.  That’s how Susie and I stayed here so much Years ago  J

Happy New Year to all, here’s to a GREAT SNOW SEASON!!  Thank you,

Craig & Susie
