Subject: Gate Creek Snow Report -Thursday Dec. 17th
Good afternoon its 2pm and its still snowing “lightly”. Like Anchorage & The Valley we did receive some fresh snow in the last 48 hrs. My apologies for the late report however Grammy Susie & I were looking for Santa and spent 2 days in Anchor Town … God Bless those of you that endure that on a daily Basis … Our Hearts go out to you (is it my imagination or is there an “element of Stress” that comes with living in the City)?
Anyway, Here’s what’s what … Anchorage as you already know received from 5-12” depending on what part of town you lived in … the east side and Eagle River getting the bigger Measurements. Wasilla also had huge swings in the amount of Snow deposit, with parts of town getting as little as 8” and Palmer getting Knee deep snow … I have a short friend who lives there, so that may only mean 14” … but it could be more. Thompson Pass was hammered (7ft) and Valdez also received “feet of snow”. Hatcher Pass should be an excellent place to find good Deep snow … but as always be aware of the Rocks … if it looks like a Rock *** Warning Will Robinson *** Stay away!!!
Willow received 6-7” and it feathered out as it continued North, with the Exception of East of the Parks where it may have received the same 14” that Palmer got … it was really a weird storm. The Flats coming North out of Willow should have miles and miles of untracked powder!
Reports of 4” or Less across the Kahiltna (west of Petersville) which is still Skinny compared to its usual depths. Far North in Cantwell, Paxson and North to Fairbanks is still pretty Skimpy too. So my friends be patient its slowly getting Better … key word here “slowly”.
Petersville still has the Best snow of anyplace I’ve heard of … with the Exception of Lost Lake which had a 6ft base and 18” of fresh powder at last report ; that would be nice J
Gate Creek Cabins has lodging available for this weekend … 733.4283! Trapper Creek Inn 733.2302 has lodging this weekend as does … Kenny Creek Lodge 733.1310
That’s it for Now so Ta Ta … keep the rubber side Down … Be Safe, Merry Christmas to ALL !!
