Subject:                                     Gate Creek Cabins snow report 3-1-10

Good Morning my friends:

I’m pleased to report that we finally did pick up some fresh snow in the past few days, just in time for the weekend ... 2-3” Thursday. It did make things nice for last weekend’s Grooming  J  Last night we received another 2-3” and NWS says we could get 1-5” today and maybe another 1-3” tonight … so let’s hope so … we could use more snow (but I guess I always say that).

The Snowpack is at about a 3’ base and West of Moose Creek you’ll find the Best Snow. The Dutch Hills did get about 4” last week so that combined with 9” of Heavy snow the week before that has given it a little better base  J

East of Moose Creek is more Fragile and Please be gentle on the Creek Crossings in those areas … Randy Crosby has been working diligently to keep the trail in the best possible condition. Most of the Areas East and South were affected more aggressively by the warmer temps .. The Big-Su I’m told is iffy and safety concerns suggest that using the 105 parking lot is wiser than crossing the River L This doesn’t make my friends at Sheep Creek Lodge happy but anyone considering crossing towards Trapper Lake should contact them at 495.6227. Speaking of Sheep Creek Lodge  MP 88 on the Parks Hwy, they’re open again and serving the best food North of Wasilla  J  3p-10p Mon-Fri and 11a-10p Sat & Sunday … Great Food, Good Coffee, and Cabins for rent!  Mention Gate Creek Cabins and receive a free appetizer when ordering 2 dinners off the Dinner Menu.

This weekend should be a busy weekend with The Iditarod starting and Spring Break for Anchorage and the Valley … we are full Friday & Saturday night the 5th & 6th … but do have 2 cabins available Sunday night the 7th … The Borealis and the Moose Nugget. We are Full Monday & Tuesday Night the 8th & 9th … then have 4 cabins available Wednesday night only the 10th.  We’re full again Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights the 11th, 12th & 13th and on Sunday night the 14th we open back up with multiple cabins available … as of this writing!

If you’re looking for lodging this coming weekend try Trapper Creek Inn 733.2302 or Kenny Creek Lodge  733.1310

One more thing: It seems that people are always asking us about cabins in the area …. Or land for sale.  A good friend had 32.73 acres just 3/10 of a mile off Petersville Road, 16 x 24 ft Cabin w/loft, 2 out buildings, 3500 KW remote starting Generator, wood and oil stoves … $85,000.00

That’s all for now  J  Think Snow!!!
