Cross
Country Skiing &
Snow-Shoeing
Many of our guests
prefer a more quiet form
of recreation, and a non
motorized commune with
the “Greatland”. The
Greater Petersville Area
offers access to
thousands of acres of
both State and Borough
land on which Winter
Enthusiasts can play.
The best days for the
hardcore “quiet seeker”
are midweek as the area
is the #1 snow-machining
destination in the state
(November through
April).
Having said that, all
the groomed trails are
multi-use every day, all
Season long; many of our
guests enjoy a brisk
trek around a groomed
trail typically used by
Cross Country Skiers.
This 3.6 mile venture
winds its way through
wooded Forests, next to
a small stream, and
across open meadows with
vistas of Mt. McKinley
and peaks at much of the
Alaska Range. With a
simple request by “would
be skiers” you’ll find
our Courteous staff more
than willing to put a
fresh groom across the
course prior to your
use. Note: We do not set
tracks, but lay a smooth
groom for skate skiing
In addition; there is a
local track set up for
X-Country Skiing only (I
believe to be 5
Kilometers long) … just
a few short miles away.
For the more
adventurous, the Safari
Lake Trail is nearby,
and is the major
Snowmachining trail with
quick access from our
facility, and is always
available to Skiers.
That trail is groomed
from our property to the
Trailhead.
